Nuno Boavida, born in 1974, graduated in Industrial Production Engineering at the New University of Lisbon in 1999, and did a M.Sc in Industrial Relations at the London School of Economics in 2001, where he focused his thesis on the Portuguese labour movement. After an internship in the Economic and Social Committee of the European Union, he worked as a researcher for a consultancy firm in Lisbon.

From 2003 to 2007, he had a scholarship from the Portuguese National Science Foundation to work at the Observatory for Science, Technology and Higher Education, where he concentrated his work in the study indicators of the knowledge society, particularly those concerning Innovation, R&D, Information and Communication Technologies, spin-off activities and key technologies. He also carried out policy analysis in science, technology and innovation.

Since 2007, he had another scholarship from the Portuguese National Science Foundation to work at the Planning Office of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, where he has been workin on Science, Technology and Innovation policy and metrics, being responsible for several studies in the area, at the same time that he enrolled in a PhD in Technology Assessment at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Since he graduated from the LSE, he has also been involved in organizing conferences, editing books and writing papers. Furthermore, since 2004 he got involved at Interdisciplinary centre IET - Inovação Empresarial e do Trabalho of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia - Universidade Nova de Lisboa. In addition, since 2007 he has been collaborating in the lecture of the courses Socio-Economics of Innovation, Social Factors of Innovation and Sociology of the New Information Technologies in the same university.
